Over the past few weeks, have received an overwhelming amount of questions and feedback regarding our D-4D Kits®. All of our kit components are first developed using Solidworks™ 3D design software. This allows each piece to be precisely crafted for the perfect fit each and every time. Once we’re done with the design phase of a component, we take it to our prototyping station for final cut and assembly using our state-of-the-art Torchmate™ CNC cutting system. These systems are phenomenal for taking our designs from the computer to the finished part with astonishing results. Over the past year, we have been stress testing all of the components included in our D-4D Kits ® for every stress and abuse we can think of. You can be sure that when you purchase a kit, it’s been built to last.

As the diesel-powered Nissan Patrol was growing in popularity, Toyota needed another home-run for their own diesel fleet. Drawing on design elements from the enormously successful “L” series diesel engines, Toyota wanted the 1KZT-E to be a complete re-design; sharing not even the engine block with their previous engines. In 1993, Toyota released the 1KZT-E to critical acclaim worldwide. It featured a turbocharged, large displacement 3.0 (2,982 cc) liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with an electronically controlled indirect injection system. Worldwide, the 1KZT-E has earned a cult-following for it’s dependability, longevity, and economy. Even though it was released in 1993, Toyota is still producing the 1KZT-E in certain markets.

At first glance, it obvious that Toyota designed these engines to be easily serviced. With features like an inverted, top-mounted oil filter and readily accessible glow plugs, any competent diesel mechanic will find these engines extremely simple to work on. Perhaps the best feature of the 1KZT-E is the timing belt is ridiculously simple to replace; not even requiring the removal of the accessory belts. We have a “How-To”.pdf file available for download here.

Toyota Diesel Chassis Codes

The 1KZT-E engines were put into several different Toyota models throughout the world. Toyota uses a unique chassis identification system when naming their vehicles. For instance, if you’re dealing with a RN130: the RN is the engine series, and the chassis generation code is a 130. From 1989-1995, the generation code is 130; from 1995-2004, the chassis generation code is a 185. So, all of this being said, when considering a conversion these platforms are important to make sure that you get the correct chassis code as they’re not interchangeable.

KZN130

1985-1995 Toyota Pickup

1985-1995 Toyota 4runner

KZN185

1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma

1995-2003 Toyota 4runner

1993-1998 Toyota T-100

2001-2005 Toyota Tundra
