The brand new 2.8 liter 1GD-FTV is the next generation in ultra-high efficiency turbo diesel engines from Toyota. The 1GD-FTV engines introduces Toyota’s new clean burn technology called  “Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC) technology”. Used exclusively in overseas markets, the 1GD-FTV includes quite the lengthy list of refinements. First major refinement is the use of an integrated DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) for ultra-clean emissions and zero diesel exhaust smell. Toyota also implemented the use of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) to further lower NOx emissions and provide a smooth quiet, clean exhaust output. This is fantastic news for customers in CARB states as this technology could allow these converted trucks to be sold and legally operated in CARB states.  Other refinements over the 1KD-FTV include a chain-drive timing mechanism, front mounted intercooler system, and  can be mated to 6-speed auto or manual transmissions.
